The Accounts Payable and Payroll Specialist at The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) administers and processes accounts payable; processes bi-monthly payroll and supports employee benefits administration. The CJM has an $8 million annual operating budget, and approximately 43 full time and 60 part-time and/or temporary employees. 

The ideal candidate will bring skills and experience in non-profit accounting to this position and will enjoy implementing new systems and procedures. The organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a fast paced work environment will be expected. The Accounts Payable and Payroll Specialist will report to the Controller, work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and interact regularly with all members of The CJM’s staff.

Position Title: Accounts Payable and Payroll Specialist

Department: Finance

Reports To: Controller

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process accounts payable transactions, ensuring that all invoices and other payment requests are paid accurately and in accordance with The CJM’s finance policies and procedures
  • Research, track, and resolve accounting issues
  • Collect, calculate and enter payroll data to ADP, review and run reports. Maintain up to date payroll records, and resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information   
  • Prepare payroll related reports such as census data, and other organizational requirements. Maintain payroll related documentation
  • Provide support to the COO and Controller on employee benefits administration, including accrual tracking, open enrollment and employee status changes
  • Respond to payroll related questions and requests from employees
  • Assist in developing and documenting finance policies and procedures
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and schedules as assigned for annual external financial audit
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Three+ years of accounts payable and/or payroll experience, ideally in non-profit environment
  •  Experience with MIP/Abila accounting software and ADP payroll desirable 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
