The Contemporary Jewish Museum

Interior and Exterior Architecture

In 1994, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency invited the Contemporary Jewish Museum to develop the historic Jessie Street Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) Power Substation, a 1907 landmark designed by architect Willis Polk.  Unveiled in 2005, and opened in 2008, Daniel Libeskind's design combines the history of an early twentieth-century San Francisco landmark building with the dynamism of contemporary architecture.
