TECHNOLOGY MANAGER
POSITION description

This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations and directly manages the IT/AV and technology needs for staff who work in The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) and its back-of-house administrative offices and creative work spaces. The Technology Manager will regularly support and interact with all departments, including Operations/Finance, Marketing, Curatorial and Exhibitions, Education, Retail, Security and Facilities; and will help to implement technical solutions for improved operational efficiency, events, public programs and exhibitions activities. 

It will be critical to plan and manage projects for the future needs of the museum, including infrastructure upgrades, technological needs for end users, virtualization/backup platforms and the museum’s audio visual systems.

TECHNOLOGY SETTING

The CJM has approximately 65 regular users of domain machines. The environment is largely a static one, consisting of about a 70/30 split of PC’s and Macs, with museum staff working primarily on desktops, and several mobile users that work off-site on occasion, using a VPN for network connectivity. The server environment consists of multiple hosted platforms, from SaaS Finance software to web hosting, on-premises physical servers, and a small vSphere cluster.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee and manage all technology that touches the museum and its varied functions, its extended AV team, and ongoing relationships with contracted vendors who support various systems.
  • Plan and implement the annual IT/AV budget aligned with organizational needs and stated priorities of senior and executive management.
  • Manage The CJM’s IT ticketing system, assign priority and address issues as they arise.
  • Provide daily management/troubleshooting of printers and copiers, including supply and vendor management.
  • Supervise, develop and manage the Technical Coordinator role, overseeing after hours and extended AV support for events, public programs and facility rentals.
  • Serve as project manager or as needed on new IT/AV and inter-departmental technology initiatives.
  • Research, create and evaluate new RFPs and provide informed recommendations to senior management regarding vendor/procurement decisions, capital planning and fixed assets.
  • Maintain and strengthen The CJM’s fault-tolerant infrastructure to scale with its operational and program development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience in dynamic work environment with increasing responsibility managing systems and people.  Non-profit and/or museum work experience a plus.
  • Technical knowledge of desktops with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office suite and peripherals. Experience with Apple Mac (OS10.x), IOS devices, Android.
  • Experience with Server 2003, 2008, 2008R2, 2012R2, VMware, Backup Exec, SQL Server management.
  • Exchange Server management, Active Directory Management, Group Policy.
  • Switching infrastructure management and configuration (Brocade management and configuration)
  • Understanding of Firewall and Security best practices (Management of Palo Alto Firewalls)
  • Munki and OSX scripting a plus.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, Sharepoint, and other software to support functional activities desirable.
  • Knowledge of legacy and open-ended AV systems, wireless connectivity, video conferencing, PBX phone technology and smart devices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Dexterity to manipulate and maintain small electronics.
  • Ability to operate the Museum’s scissor lift or other designated equipment with authorization and proper safety training from the Exhibitions and Facilities team as needed.
  • Physical requirements may include stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, crouching, climbing (ladders), reaching above the shoulders and lifting up to 50 lbs, transporting moderately heavy objects, such as furniture, file cabinets, equipment, and boxes may be required at times.
  • Work may require occasional weekends and/or evenings.
  • Ability to respond after hours and to emergency situations.
