AUDIO VISUAL TECHNICIAN
Position Summary

The Audio Visual (AV) Technician will provide AV services for Museum meetings and events, exhibitions and programming on an as-needed basis. The nature of the position requires the ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment; a solid working knowledge of a broad range of AV equipment and basic computer systems; and administrative and organizational skills.

The successful individual in this role will provide a high level of customer service and will enthusiastically promote The CJM as a cultural and community setting. Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Site Operations and Planning
Status: Temporary, Part-time, Non-exempt
Location: The CJM, San Francisco, California
Hourly Rate: $30

Essential Job responsibilities
  • Assists and supports AV needs for external facility rentals, internal CJM public programs, presentations, or exhibition openings and related programming in The CJM’s spaces
  • Moves, sets up, strikes, operates, and adjusts AV equipment, including microphones, portable sound systems, projectors, and lighting equipment; pulls and installs additional cable as necessary
  • Consults with and advises Museum staff regarding a wide variety of AV needs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of current and legacy AV technology including a wide range of equipment; sound techniques and acoustics; the installation, operation, and setup of regularly used AV equipment; safety and security procedures for handling and storage of AV equipment
  • Solid application skills for both Mac and PC systems, including PowerPoint, Keynote, multi-media players, and streaming audio services. Computer hardware skill a plus
  • Experience in a museum environment is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to move, operate, and make minor repairs on a broad variety of AV equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Conscientious self starter with proven ability to manage and independently prioritize multiple tasks, and to produce timely, high quality outcomes
  • Ability to respond to scheduling requests which may include nights and weekends, based upon AV needs of The Museum

Other Requirements

  • Lifting and carrying equipment (ability to lift up to 60 lbs) such as amplifiers and projectors
  • Physical agility, and frequent periods of bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, pushing, pulling, standing, or sitting
