VISITOR EXPERIENCE SPECIALIST
Position Summary

The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) seeks a Visitor Experience (VX) Specialist team member who provides welcoming and informative first contact with visitors, annual members, and VIPs. The CJM strives to offer a best-in-class experience to each visitor immediately upon arrival and throughout their stay. Care and attention to the highest health and safety standards and protocols implemented by The Museum in compliance with the City and County of San Francisco are required of all CJM employees. VX Specialist team members must be willing to set the tone for visitors and to assist in enforcing health and safety practices with others as needed. The ideal candidate for this position will be a dependable individual with strong interpersonal and communications skills. Shifts for the Visitor Experience Specialist will be scheduled by the Visitor Experience Manager on an on-call basis, which means that the Visitor Experience Specialist may be contacted when opportunities are available and may accept or decline the hours based on their availability. The on-call status does not obligate The CJM to offer hours or obligate the Visitor Experience Specialist to accept hours offered. Work hours for this position will be variable.

Reports To: Visitor Experience Manager  
Status: Temporary, On-call, Part-time, Non-exempt
Location: The CJM’s public spaces have reopened and this position will be required to work on-site, following safety guidelines and protocols
Hourly rate: $17.50

Essential Job responsibilities
  • Handle visitor access and hospitality at The CJM’s Shenson Welcome Center and throughout The CJM’s lobby, The CJM Shop, and public spaces, including providing visitor orientation to The Museum and surrounding areas
  • Welcome Museum visitors and scan pre-purchased admission tickets; assist visitors with onsite, contactless ticket purchases; and on occasion, sell Museum admission tickets and new and renewal memberships through a computer-based POS system (Altru), including processing credit card payments, and cash transactions
  • Engage with Museum visitors around The CJM Shop and transact sales of exhibition catalogs and other merchandise
  • Answer questions and provide in-person guidance to visitors in The Museum and occasionally via phone and email; resolve and document general complaints from guests and members
  • Stay informed about current and upcoming exhibitions, programs, and marketing campaigns.
  • Monitor the visitor experience to ensure that requests and special needs are met; provide wayfinding; and create an enjoyable and rewarding experience for visitors
  • Ensure visitor security and safety, coordinating any issues with other Visitor Experience and Security personnel
  • Stay informed/up-to-date on changes to City and County and/or State health and safety requirements. Exemplify these requirements while on-site and communicate them to visitors as necessary, including acting on Museum-wide safety protocols (ensuring mask wearing, social distancing, vaccination status, etc., as directed)
  • Help maintain clean and organized public spaces, and assist with managing crowds and equipment at events
Minimum qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience (volunteer or paid) in customer service, visitor services, retail, or tourism environment 
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Organizational and accounting skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Computer proficiency, knowledge of online ticketing systems a plus
  • Professional and cordial demeanor
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and flexible
Other requirements
  • Capable of responding to emergency situations such as assisting in building evacuation
  • Availability to work on weekend days, holidays, and some evening hours
  • Ability to follow The CJM’s safety procedures and protocols in regards to COVID-19 mandates from the City and County of San Francisco. While these mandates may change, currently they include but are not limited to wearing and communicating while wearing a facial covering (including mask and/or face shield, etc.) for extended periods of time
  • VX Specialists will be expected to circulate in The Museum and galleries to ensure visitor compliance with all safety standards and protocols, including those related to COVID-19
