About the Program

As part of AIA’s Architecture in the City month-long celebration, families and youth of all ages will discover new ways to experience architecture at the CJM. Take an Adventure in Architecture family tour, get creative in the Young Architects Workshop, and join us on an exploration of the Museum’s redesigned historical building.

Adventures in Architecture Family Tour | 11:30am–12:30pm
Families with children of all ages are invited on an interactive architecture exploration of the Museum’s redesigned historical building. On this multi-sensory tour, families discover the Museum’s unique architectural history through visual art, creative movement, material investigations, storytelling, and building charade activities.

Young Architects Workshop | 1–3
In conjunction with Architecture in the City, and in honor of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, design a sukkah or building using a variety of fine art and recycled materials. Add to our temporary sukkah installation and create your own miniature version to take home.

Teen-led Architecture Tour | 2–2:30pm
Discover how renowned architect Daniel Libeskind brought the landmark PG&E Power Substation back "to life" as a museum. This interactive, inquiry-based tour is led by members of Teen Art Connect, the Museum's paid teen internship program, and is appropriate for all audiences.

Lead support for Family Programs at the Contemporary Jewish Museum is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Presenting partners include The Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation and Target. Major support comes from Bank of America. Additional support is provided by Valerie and Norman Snart, in honor of Waldo and Helen Blumberg.
