Families experience new adventures in drop-in art-making every Sunday. Learn more about the exhibitions on display, the building’s architecture, or Jewish holidays and traditions, while experimenting with materials and art techniques.

Create your own Beat photograph inspired by the exhibition Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg using text and images.

Bring your family and dive into new adventures in art-making every Sunday. Experiment with a variety of techniques as you create artwork that connects to the exhibitions on display, the unique architecture of the CJM, or Jewish holidays and traditions. 

Tuesdays, Jul 9, 16, 23, 30 | 11am–12:30pm

Admission: Members $10; General $20 (includes Museum admission, one adult and up to two children)

Join the Museum for our first ever ZOOM Family Studios, an opportunity for kids (ages four and up) and their adult companions to explore the gallery with an artist, zoom in on a selected style or technique, and have fun creating art together in our studio. In this first series, zoom into abstract art from Beyond Belief: 100 Years of the Spiritual in Modern Art and get inspired to create artwork using a variety of fine art materials.

Select Sundays: July 14 & Aug 11 | 11:30am–12:15pm

 How does red make you feel? How can you move like a sculpture? Join this family tour filled with hands- on activities of the exhibition, Beyond Belief: 100 Years of the Spiritual in Modern Art, and explore modern artists’ use of color, line, and shape.

CJM Access presents a Kidpower Parent-Child Workshop. In this active, upbeat workshop, families with children with disabilities aged 6-12 are invited to practice using “people safety” skills using role-play, games, and storytelling.

Celebrate the CJM’s third annual LGBTQ Family Day: A Day for Families, Friends, and Allies. Picnic and play with old friends and new, join our contemporary family parade led by the SF Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, explore the artwork in Beyond Belief: 100 Years of the Spiritual in Art, and create a Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg inspired family portrait.

Sunday, Sep 8 | 10–11:30am (doors open at 9:45am)

Admission: Free with Museum admission (adults must be accompanied by a preschooler for entry); Youth 18 and under always free

On second Sundays, the Museum opens early just for preschoolers and their families. Activities include gallery explorations, hands-on art-making fun, and a stellar line-up of favorite children’s performers from the Bay Area and beyond. Create a miniature city in the art studio, move to the songs of Jonathan Bayer, and enjoy family fun in conjunction with the exhibition Beyond Belief: 100 Years of the Spiritual in Modern Art.

As part of AIA’s Architecture in the City month-long celebration, families and youth of all ages will discover new ways to experience architecture at the CJM. Take an Adventure in Architecture family tour, get creative in the Young Architects Workshop, and join us on an exploration of the Museum’s redesigned historical building.

Yerba Buena Family Day presented by Target is downtown San Francisco’s biggest daylong family block party with free admission, special art activities and free performances for children and families at four Museums in the Yerba Buena arts district, plus a huge array of special art activities for kids and free performances on two big stages courtesy of Yerba Buena Gardens Festival.

In celebration of World Alzheimer’s Day, CJM Access presents a screening of the award-winning international documentary I Remember Better When I Paint, introduced by the film maker and followed by a hands-on art workshop.
