About the Program
Music, comedy, melodrama—what’s not to love at this afternoon extravaganza drawn from the tradition of Yiddish radio? Afternoon includes pulled-from-the-vault broadcast scripts not heard in over sixty years, classic klezmer, original skits, and commercial jingles by Anthony Russell and Jeanette Lewicki, with musicians Sheldon Brown (clarinet), Rob Reich (accordion), and Richard Saunders (bass). Hosted by Harvey Varga (100 Yiddish Words the Average Puerto Rican New Yorker Knows). Come early and grab lunch at Wise Sons Deli.
Created in conjunction with KlezCalifornia and co-presented by The Jewish Daily Forward.
Public Programs and New Media Initiatives at The Contemporary Jewish Museum are made possible with lead support from The Jim Joseph Foundation. Major support has been provided by the Leavitt Family and supporting sponsorship comes from The Toole Family Charitable Foundation, David B. Gold Foundation, In Memory of Benjamin Alpert.
