February 22, 2010 rebecca, houston, tx these books are such a revelation of history as well as in my mind and memory of my past days, my great rememberance of my father sitting on my bed and reading to me the picturesque words and playing festively with the joys of these books sent by sendak.

for all of these memories, i thank you.
January 15, 2010 Jenny, Alameda The exhibit was wonderful! I learned so much, saw some very exciting items, and felt like I understood the man and his art better. Thank you! I want to come back and drink it all in again. Kudos to the curator!
The only two things I would have changed: there was no exhibit catalog for purchase, which was a deep disappointment. Many of these items are not published anywhere. Also, there was no captioning/subtitling of the videos, which rendered them unaccessible to me. I depend on being able to read text in order to understand TV, movies, Internet clips, and any sort of video. I have no idea what Sendak was telling people about his work, and I felt this was a real loss.
January 10, 2010 Leticia, San Diego Sendek's books are wonderful and so is your exhibition. His popularity has skyrocketed since the release of the movie version of Where the WIld Things Are. I was sorry to see that the moviemakers were not able to capture the sense of allegory and mystery that the books create. Perhaps it is unavoidable due to the difference between books which give room for individual pacing and imagination, and movies that really are totally controlled and immersed experience which leave little room for the individual to fill in.
January 03, 2010 Steve, Foster City, CA I learned the story behind the stories and the art work in this exhibit. It is creative and excellent
October 31, 2009 Dan, Oakland, CA I loved seeing the variety of Sendak's work and learning about his childhood, which was very different from mine. I was also entertained to see images from the pictures of his childhood showing up in some of the illustrations he did!
