About the Program
Beginning on October 12, 2008, and running for one year, the Museum will be the first museum in the country to host StoryCorps, the renowned oral history recording booth, whose interviews have been broadcast on National Public Radio for several years.
Coinciding with the arrival of StoryCorps at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, McSweeney's is releasing two new volumes in the Voice of Witness oral history series: Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives and Out of Exile: The Abducted and Displaced People of Sudan. The Museum will host a discussion of these two books, featuring editors Peter Orner, Craig Walzer, Dave Eggers, and others. Speakers will read from the books, and discuss the process of creating oral histories on international human rights crises.
